Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa To Defend His Seat Next Year

Football Kenya Federation president Nick Mwendwa Kthuku has announced that he will be defending his seat after next year’s elective Annual General Meeting.

The 39-year-old business and techprenuer was elected boss of the Kenya’s football body in February 2016, replacing Sam Nyamweya under “team change” slogan.

Nick, who hails from Makueni County, disclosed his intentions Saturday during this year’s AGM in the lake side city of Kisumu.

“We have done three AGM’s and we will have a fourth one around this time next year. During that AGM we will set the dates for the next FKF elections,” Nick was quoted saying by Soka.co.ke.

“Let me say it now that I will be seeking re-election when the next election is called. I am seeking your votes early, he added.

Thus far nobody has come forward to express interest in toppling Nick who has enjoyed considerable success under his short reign.

Under his leadership, FIFA restored funding to the federation and the national women’s team, the Harambee Starlets, have qualified for the Awcon back to back.

Their men’s counterpart in the meantime are on the verge making a return to the Afcon in Cameroon next year for the first time in 15 years.

The federation however has failed to secure corporate sponsorships and the national teams have remained begging tools for government support.

According to reports, Chief Executive Officer of the gaming behemoth SportPesa, Cpt. Ronald Karauri could challenge for the top seat at Kandanda House, but nothing is confirmed just yet.
