Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli has called on the Deputy President William Ruto to declare his stand on the recently launched Huduma Namba.

According to Atwoli, Ruto’s followers, Team Tanga Tanga, has not rooted for the National Integrated Identity Management System (NIIMS) exercise dubbed Huduma Namba.

“Watu wa tangatanga hawajaambia watu wachukue. Watu wa Rift valley wanasema wanangojea Ruto awaambie (Loosely translated as: Team Tanga Tanga has not told people to turn up and register for Huduma Namba, even the people in the Rift Valley are saying they are waiting for a signal from Ruto),” Atwoli said.

Speaking on Saturday during a stewards’ forum in Gikomba, Atwoli urged DP Ruto to come clean on the exercise.

“He should declare his stand on this Huduma Namba. If he doesn’t like it he should come out and tell us why,” he said.

He  supported the initiative, terming it a widely adopted practice.

Reports indicate the Deputy President is yet to obtain his Huduma Namba.

Atwoli, asked Kenyans to turn up in large numbers and obtain the crucial number.

The Huduma Namba mass registration exercise was officially launched by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday at Masii Public Grounds in Machakos County after the high court gave it a clean bill of health.

Reports indicate by midday on Thursday, 150,000 people had been registered.

In the spirit of rooting for the exercise, that has been overly described as crucial, opposition leader Raila Odinga launched the registration in Likoni Mombasa, while Musalia Mudavadi was in Kakamega. Former Vice President  Kalonzo Musyoka was in Murang’a, accompanied by Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula.

DP Ruto was expected to launch the exercise in Western Kenya but didn’t show up.

His absence was conspicuously visible even as leaders avoided talking about his whereabouts, except ODM leader Raila Odinga who noted that the DP was expected at Kakamega, where he was a no-show.

Taking to his Twitter account, Ruto revealed that he was meeting the Vice President of the Cuban Council of State and of Ministers, Ms Ines Maria Chapman.

The registration exercise will run for 45 days, ending on May 16.
