A security operation in Kisumu led to the arrest of two suspected criminal gang members, and the recovery of items believed to be linked to criminal activities.
The operation, mounted by detectives from the DCI Operations Support Unit (OSU), the Anti-Terrorism Police Unit (ATPU), and the GSU Tactical Team, was carried out following credible intelligence pointing to the suspects’ criminal activities.
The team moved swiftly, leading to the arrest of Joseph Mwata Magak alias “Boyi Sampa” and Isaac Omondi Ojwang’.
A subsequent search of Magak’s rented house in Mamboleo Pocho Estate, Kisumu, opened a Pandora’s box, as detectives uncovered a cache of items concealed in the master bedroom.
Among the items recovered were a homemade firearm, a bow and four arrows, a panga, a toy gun, five rolls of cannabis sativa, a police siren, a pair of police boots, six pairs of jungle-green tactical trousers, a camouflage jacket and a pair of tactical boots.
Detectives also recovered a bottle of gun oil, a Kenyan flag, a Subaru front bumper, among other items.
Further investigations have established that Joseph Mwata Magak has an ongoing case of attempted robbery with violence before the Nakuru Law Courts.
The suspects remain in custody undergoing processing pending arraignment, while the recovered items have been secured as exhibits.
The DCI commended members of the public who continue to provide timely and actionable intelligence, which remains a critical weapon in the fight against organised crime and in keeping communities safe.
Meanwhile, the National Criminal Investigations Academy (NCIA) held a consultative meeting with the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) to discuss the registration and accreditation of its training programmes under the Kenya National Qualifications Framework (KNQF).
Held at NCIA the engagement followed earlier discussions between the two institutions on the registration of identified NCIA qualifications.
Discussions centred on the requirements for registration and accreditation, the legal instruments establishing NCIA, and evidence of its accreditation as a Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institution.
The KNQA team, led by its Director, Mr. James Tegeret, took the Academy through the process, followed by a plenary discussion and question-and-answer session.
Speaking during the engagement, NCIA Commandant, Ibrahim Jillo, said the exercise would strengthen the Academy’s training mandate and enhance recognition of its qualifications.
“Formal registration and accreditation of our programmes is an important step in strengthening the Academy’s training mandate and ensuring that the qualifications we offer are aligned with national standards. We will continue working closely with KNQA to meet all the requirements and advance the professionalisation of criminal investigations training,” said the Commandant.
The meeting concluded with both institutions agreeing on the way forward to fulfil the outstanding requirements and progress the registration of NCIA programmes within the KNQF.
