    Garbage truck driver electrocuted at Thika dumpsite

    A 42-year-old garbage truck driver was electrocuted after his vehicle came into contact with a high-voltage power line at Kangoki Dumpsite in Thika West Sub-County, Kiambu County.

    The incident occurred on Thursday morning and involved the driver who worked with the Environ Bins Collection Company.

    Police identified the deceased as Joseph Mwangi Muchiri, a driver employed by the waste collection company.

    Police officers and a Kenya Power emergency team visited the scene and found the company’s Howo lorry in contact with overhead high-voltage electricity lines.

    Preliminary investigations indicate that the driver had already offloaded waste and was driving away when the truck’s raised dump bed struck the power line. He was electrocuted in the incident and succumbed to his injuries while being rushed to Thika Level Five Hospital by Good Samaritans.

    Crime scene investigators documented and processed the scene, while the Kenya Power emergency team isolated the electricity supply to ensure the area was safe.

    The body was moved to General Kago Mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination. Police are continuing with investigations into the incident.

    And police in Mwala Sub-County, Machakos County launched investigations after a 69-year-old man was found dead in a neighbour’s compound under unclear circumstances.

    The incident was reported on Thursday afternoon, police said.

    Patrick Nyamai Nyumu, was found lying dead in a neighbour’s compound.

    Police said the circumstances surrounding the man’s death remain unclear, and inquiries are underway to establish the cause of death.

    The body was processed at the scene pending removal for a post-mortem examination as investigations continue.
