A gas explosion in Eastleigh Section 3, Nairobi East Sub-County, left two people seriously injured and several others with minor burns.

The incident occurred on March 17, 2026, at around 9:00 p.m. at Muchai House, a four-storey building with 74 rooms.

Police confirmed that the building owner and an eight-year-old child from a neighboring house sustained serious burns.

They were rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for treatment.

Four other occupants suffered minor burns and were treated at Ednah Medical Facility before being discharged in fair condition.
Property within the affected house was destroyed, though the total value of the loss is yet to be determined.

Residents have been urged to exercise caution when handling gas appliances and report any safety concerns to prevent similar accidents.
Elsewhere, police in Buruburu Sub-County, Nairobi East, recovered a rusty pistol revolver after it was handed over by a street child.
The incident was reported on March 17, 2026, at 7:56 p.m. when a member of the street family approached a police officer carrying a metallic object.

Upon inspection, the officer confirmed it was a rusty revolver, with its serial number not visible.
The reportee told authorities that he had found the firearm in Nairobi River near Motherland in Eastleigh Section.

The revolver was handed over to detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) for further examination, and the case is pending under investigation.
Authorities have urged residents to report any suspicious items found in public areas to prevent potential misuse.

And police in Kilifi South Sub-County are investigating an attempted robbery that left a woman injured on March 17, 2026 night, in Mtwapa.

The victim had just returned from Mombasa, where she runs an MPESA business in Mwembe Tayari, when she was confronted by an armed assailant at the gate of her residence in Kenya Project Estate.

According to reports, as the night guard prepared to open the gate, the suspect attempted to stop her and she declined and drove her Toyota Probox away from the scene.

During the attempt, the assailant fired a shot through the driver’s side window, shattering the glass and windshield. The victim sustained cuts to her right cheek and forehead, likely from broken glass.

The woman creamed for help and was rushed to Mtwapa Sub-County Hospital for treatment before being referred to Coast General Hospital for specialized care. No property was stolen during the incident.

Police officers responded promptly. A spent cartridge was recovered at the scene, which was secured and processed by investigators.
Authorities are continuing investigations to apprehend the suspect.
