Giorgio Cantarini is an Italian actor born on April 12, 1992, in Orvieto, Umbria, Italy.

He gained international recognition as a child for his roles in two major Academy Award-winning films: Life Is Beautiful (1997) and Gladiator (2000).

Raised primarily in Orvieto and later spending time in places like Viterbo, Florence, Rome, Paris, and Los Angeles, Cantarini was born to parents Giuseppe Cantarini and Giovanna Martini.

His parents separated after his fifth birthday.

Giorgio has a younger brother named Lorenzo Cantarini.

    Career

Cantarini’s acting career began remarkably early when he was just five years old.

He made his film debut in Roberto Benigni’s Life Is Beautiful, playing Giosuè Orefice, the young son of the character portrayed by Benigni.

The film, a poignant comedy-drama set during the Holocaust, became a global success and launched Cantarini into the spotlight.

In 2000, he appeared in Ridley Scott’s epic Gladiator, taking on the role of Maximus’ son in a memorable cameo alongside Russell Crowe.

These two high-profile projects remain the cornerstone of his early filmography, though he has continued acting in subsequent years.

His later credits include roles in projects such as Lamborghini: The Legend (2022) and Love, Wine & Salt: A Tuscan Romance (2024), as well as television work like the 2001 Hallmark Hall of Fame film In Love and War.

Beyond his childhood stardom, Cantarini has balanced acting with life experiences across different countries.

    Accolades

For his performance in Life Is Beautiful, Cantarini won the Young Artist Award (specifically the Jackie Coogan Award) in 1998, becoming the youngest recipient of that honor and the only Italian to achieve it.

He was also part of the cast nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

His contributions to two Oscar-winning films have cemented his place in cinema history, even as his career evolved beyond child acting.
