The gospel music industry is mourning the death of veteran singer Regina Muthoni, best known for her timeless hit Yesu Ulishinda.

Muthoni passed away on the night of Thursday, October 2, 2025, at her home in Githurai 44. Her body was later taken to Kenyatta University Referral Hospital.

Her death was confirmed by music director Ephantus Safari, who expressed his sorrow in a heartfelt message on Facebook.

“It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of our legendary gospel musician Regina Muthoni, the voice behind the timeless song Yesu Ulishinda. Mama Regina’s music has touched countless lives and her legacy of faith will continue to inspire generations to come,” Safari wrote.

He described Muthoni as a true minister who used her voice to spread the gospel and bring hope to many through her songs.

Condolences also poured in from other musicians and public figures. Renowned Mugiithi singer Waithaka Wa Jane shared a photo of Muthoni, writing, “Rest in peace, Regina Muthoni.”

Kikuyu media personality Paxson Chege Ngunya confirmed he was at Kenyatta University Referral Hospital when her body arrived. He added that several artistes, including gospel singer Ngaruiya Junior, had also gathered at the facility to comfort the family.

“Sad news, gospel singer Regina Muthoni has gone to be with the Lord. She died while at her home in Githurai 44. Regina is the one who sang the popular hit Yesu Ulishinda,” Chege wrote.
