The National Lands Commission has ruled that one of Jomo Kenyatta’s traditional late dancers’ estate, Rahab Wanjiru, to be compensated for the land next to Harambee House Annex, which houses the Deputy President’s office.

Rahab Wanjiru was a member of the Nyakinyua Group as one of the traditional dancers who would occasionally entertain the late President.

NLC ruled that the 0.7 acres opposite Harambee House belonged to Rahab Wanjiru’s estate hence they should be compensated KSh1 billion.

Treasury had already allocated Sh500 million in the 2017 budget that ended June 2018, towards the purchase of the plot, and a balance of Sh500 million was to be allocated in the current financial year.

Rahab was a former freedom fighter and also worked in Moi’s government as Nakuru District Kanu Women Wing Leader in the 1980s.

Rahab Wanjiru passed away in 2000.
