The government has revoked the placement of 348 nursing interns after investigations revealed that a majority of them were unqualified for posting.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale said 306 interns were removed from the list after it was discovered they had not yet graduated, and therefore did not meet the minimum qualifications.
This move follows an earlier revocation of 42 interns announced on July 21, bringing the total number of withdrawn placements to 348.
“Following a review of the 2,098 pre-interns posted on July 1, 2025, the Ministry has established that 306 individuals were not qualified for internship posting as they had not yet graduated,” Duale said.
He noted that all affected internship centres had been informed of the changes.
Kenyatta University had the highest number of revoked placements at 22. Daystar University followed with seven, Methodist University had three, while Baraton University, Maasai Mara University, and UMMA University had two each. Embu University, Karatina University, Masinde Muliro University, and Mount Kenya University each had one intern’s placement cancelled.
In the same statement, the Ministry announced that 316 students who had earlier been omitted from the initial pre-internship list were now confirmed to be eligible for posting.
The students are advised to collect their posting letters on August 1 at Afya House.
