A government driver was found dead following a suicide mission at the Ntimaru Deputy County Commissioner’s office in Ntimaru, Migori County.
The victim was attached to the local DCC office and was identified as Stephen Onyango, 39.
His body was on Friday found hanging behind the local registrar of persons’ office long after the incident.
He had been missing for almost a week before the body was found, police said.
The motive of the incident was not immediately established and the body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police said they recorded at least five suicide incidents on Friday alone terming them alarming. They were all men.
The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties and financial difficulties. Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression and bipolar disorder.
The government says efforts are being made to address the menace.
Meanwhile, a minor drowned in a pool of water at a gold mining site in Cheptulu, Vihiga County.
The child Waswa aged one and half years. He drowned in a pit with water that is usually used to wash gold after its extraction.
Police said they are investigating the incident. The pit was a meter deep and was in a compound of the victim’s father.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy.
