Healthcare interns who officially reported to their stations on July 1, 2025, will earn Sh46,120 as basic salary.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Health, when allowances are factored in, the total monthly remuneration is expected to rise to about Sh208,000, in line with Civil Service Group 9 (Job Group ‘L’) guidelines.

“The Ministry of Health wishes to clarify that the posting letters for intern doctors specify a basic salary of Sh46,120 per month, with allowances applicable to CSG 9/JG ‘L’, bringing the total monthly remuneration to approximately Sh208,000,” the ministry said via social media.

The Ministry announced the deployment of the 6,484 interns in June. Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale confirmed on Friday, June 28, that the interns would be placed in accredited public health facilities across the country as part of the 2025/2026 internship program.

According to the CS, the internship will last for 12 months and will involve supervised clinical training. This will offer the graduates practical hands-on experience in real-world hospital and clinic settings, preparing them for full professional licensure.

The group of interns includes 1,147 medical officer interns, 87 dentist interns, 500 pharmacy interns, 659 clinical officers with a Bachelor of Science degree, 1,993 clinical officers with diplomas, and 2,098 nursing officer interns holding Bachelor of Science degrees.

“All eligible pre-interns are advised to collect their posting letters in person on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 9am at the Ministry of Health headquarters – Afya House, Nairobi,” CS Duale said.

He also emphasized that posting letters would only be issued upon presentation of a valid national ID card.
