A General Service Unit officer is now living hand to mouth after his plan to land a better job overseas backfired.

Patrick Otieno Osore, 28, resigned in 2016 in search for a job in South Korea.

The officer,  enlisted in the service on July 12, 2013, recently told a local daily, that a relative based in South Korea had promised him a security job in the country.

To land the job, Osore had to tender a resignation letter to his employer, National Police Service Commission (NPSC).

However, to his dismay, the job promise never materialized.

He divulged to The Standard that delays in getting a discharge letter from his employer contributed to him missing out on the job.

“Unfortunately my opportunity wouldn’t wait for the discharge letter. I automatically lost the job,” said Otieno

He has now resorted to manual jobs to make a living.

He harvests sand in River Nyando, which he says earns him between Sh100 and Sh200 a day.

Life frustrations have led him to write to NPSC requesting to be given back his job to support his young family.

“Innocently, like any other young man, I happened to get what I thought was a better job. I resigned in search of greener pasture and surrendered the police kit in my possession as I eagerly waited for my discharge letter,” notes Otieno in the letter requesting for cancellation of resignation.

The father of two – one physically challenged — argues that he has missed opportunities in the past for lack of a discharge letter.

He claims he got an opening at Kenya Airways last year but could not land the employment opportunity due to lack of the crucial letter.

“I would humbly request my employer to kindly consider my request by making an independent follow-up to my superior at Anti-Stock Theft Unit (ASTU), Mounted Company, to ascertain my discipline record, commitment, passion and diligence to service delivery prior to my resignation,” added Otieno.
