The Football Kenya Federation is racing against time to guarantee the Harambee Stars travel to Accra, Ghana for their final Afcon 2019 qualifier against the hosts Black Stars.

The senior men’s national football team are scheduled to depart for the West African country on Thursday but up until Monday evening FKF had yet to secure funding from the government for the trip.

“We are yet to receive funds to prepare for the Ghana assignment which is a bit of a concern as the team has reported to camp and we are hopeful they will depart for Ghana on Thursday,” FKF spokesperson, Barry Otieno, told Nation.

Both teams have already qualified for the 32nd edition of the championship set for Egypt from 21 June to 19 July.

Kenya top Group D of the qualifiers on 7 points, one off Ghana and a draw on Saturday at Accra Sports Stadium will keep them on top.

New Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohammed recently announced that the Harambee Stars’ Afcon 2019 budget of Ksh244 million had been approved by the government, however, no money has so far been transferred.

Stars are expected to camp in France for three weeks ahead of the tournament which they will be taking part in for the first time in 15 years.
