Hellen Obiri Bags Kenya’s First Gold In Asaba in 5000m

World women 5000m champion Hellen Obiri put aside team Kenya’s troubles in Asaba, Nigeria to win the 5000m race for the country’s first gold in the African athletics championships.

The 30-year-old Commonwealth champion stormed to victory against nine other athletes in 15:47.17.

The Kenya Defense Forces runner summoned her sheer ingenuity as she opened a 15-metre gap – which raised Kenyan hopes after the chaotic arrival in the Western African nation.
