YouTube is a vast platform with content for all types of viewers, but sometimes you may want to block certain channels—whether to avoid inappropriate content, manage what children see, or simply clean up your recommendations. Fortunately, YouTube provides several ways to limit exposure to unwanted channels both for personal use and child safety. Here is how to block YouTube channels.

    1. Why You Might Want to Block a YouTube Channel

Blocking a YouTube channel can help in different scenarios. For instance, you may not want certain creators to appear in your feed, or you may want to stop your child from accessing specific content. Blocking can reduce distractions, filter offensive material, and help maintain a positive viewing experience.

It’s a useful tool for parents, teachers, and anyone trying to control what shows up in their account.

    1. Blocking a Channel on Desktop

YouTube doesn’t provide a full “block” button like some platforms, but you can take effective steps to limit a channel’s presence in your experience.

To stop seeing content from a particular channel in your recommendations:

    • Go to the video from the channel you want to block
    • Click the three dots (⋮) next to the video title
    • Select “Don’t recommend channel”

This tells YouTube not to suggest videos from that channel anymore, reducing its visibility on your homepage and recommendation list.

If the channel is commenting on your videos and you want to prevent that:

    • Visit the channel’s main page
    • Click on the About tab
    • Click the flag icon and select “Block user”
    • Confirm by clicking Submit

This will stop them from commenting on your videos, even though their channel still exists.

    1. Blocking a YouTube Channel on Mobile

On the YouTube mobile app, you can also stop channel recommendations or block user interactions:

    To remove recommendations:

    • Tap the three dots next to a video
    • Select “Don’t recommend channel”

To block a user from commenting on your content:

    • Go to their channel profile
    • Tap the three-dot menu
    • Choose “Block user”

This feature works the same on Android and iOS devices.

    1. Use YouTube Kids for Parental Control

If you’re managing what children can watch, YouTube Kids provides stronger parental controls:

    • Open the YouTube Kids app
    • Tap the lock icon and enter your parental passcode
    • Go to Settings > Approved content only
    • You can then block or approve specific channels and videos

This is the most effective way to ensure children don’t access unsuitable content.

    1. Use Third-Party Extensions (Advanced)

If you’re using YouTube on a browser like Chrome or Firefox, you can install extensions such as:

    • Video Blocker
    • Channel Blocker

These allow you to add the names of channels you want to block entirely. The blocked channels won’t appear in search results, recommendations, or while browsing.
