With the popularity of Samsung devices, counterfeit versions often circulate in the market. To make sure you’re buying or using a genuine Samsung phone, it’s important to know how to check if it’s original. There are several simple ways to verify a Samsung device’s authenticity using its physical features, software tools, and official verification methods. Here is how to check original Samsung.

    Check the IMEI Number

The IMEI number (International Mobile Equipment Identity) is a unique identifier for every mobile device.

    To check it:

    1. Dial *#06# on the Samsung phone
    2. A 15-digit IMEI number will appear on the screen
    3. Visit www.imei.info and enter the IMEI number to view the device details
    4. The model, brand, and specifications should match the phone you’re using

If the phone details do not match what you see, the device may be fake or tampered with.

    Inspect the Packaging and Accessories

Genuine Samsung phones usually come in high-quality, well-sealed boxes with proper branding and accessories.

    Things to look for:

    • The Samsung logo should be sharp and clear
    • The charging cable and adapter should carry the Samsung brand
    • User manuals should be printed neatly, often in multiple languages
    • Packaging should include a barcode sticker with the IMEI number matching the phone

If the box looks poorly printed or the accessories feel cheap, that could be a red flag.

Use Samsung Members or Samsung Account

You can verify your device through the Samsung Members app or by registering it with your Samsung account.

    Steps:

    1. Download the Samsung Members app from the Galaxy Store or Google Play
    2. Sign in with your Samsung account
    3. Tap on “Get help” > “Phone diagnostics”
    4. The app will run a check and confirm whether the device is original and eligible for support

Alternatively, go to www.samsung.com and try to register your device using the IMEI or serial number. If the system does not recognize the phone, it could be a clone.

    Look for Samsung Knox

Most original Samsung phones, especially mid- and high-end models, come with Samsung Knox—a built-in security platform.

    To check:

    1. Go to Settings
    2. Tap About phone
    3. Look for “Knox version” or “Samsung Knox” in the software details

If Knox is not listed on a model that should have it, the phone may be counterfeit.

Check the Build Quality and Software

Genuine Samsung phones have high-quality screens, responsive touch, and fluid software performance.

    Things to observe:

    • Display should be clear and sharp, especially on AMOLED screens
    • Touch response should be smooth and accurate
    • The interface should have Samsung One UI, not stock Android or a strange interface
    • Pre-installed apps should include Samsung apps like Samsung Notes, Samsung Pay, Samsung Health, etc.

Counterfeit devices often lag, show low-resolution screens, or use a fake Samsung theme over Android.
