How To Make Crumbed Chicken

Crumbed chicken, also known as breaded chicken, is a crispy and delicious dish that is easy to make at home. The coating gives the chicken a golden, crunchy texture while keeping the meat tender and juicy inside. Whether fried or baked, crumbed chicken is a favorite for many meals, from casual dinners to special occasions. Here is how to make crumbed chicken.

Ingredients

Steps to Make Crumbed Chicken

  1. Prepare the Chicken
Place the chicken breasts on a cutting board and slice them into thin fillets if they are thick. This ensures even cooking. If needed, use a meat mallet to gently flatten them to an even thickness.
  2. Season the Flour
In a shallow dish, mix the flour with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. This helps season the chicken and ensures the coating sticks well.
  3. Prepare the Egg Wash
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs until smooth. This acts as a binding agent for the breadcrumbs.
  4. Coat with Breadcrumbs
In another dish, combine the breadcrumbs with Parmesan cheese if using. The cheese adds extra crispiness and flavor.
  5. Bread the Chicken
Dredge each chicken fillet in the seasoned flour, shaking off excess. Dip it into the beaten eggs, ensuring it’s fully coated. Finally, coat it with breadcrumbs, pressing gently so they stick well.
  6. Cooking Methods

Frying: Heat about ½ inch of cooking oil in a pan over medium heat. Fry each piece for 3–4 minutes per side or until golden brown and cooked through. Drain on paper towels.

Baking: Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Place the breaded chicken on a greased baking tray and lightly spray with cooking oil. Bake for 20–25 minutes, flipping halfway, until crispy and fully cooked.
