How To Make Hands Soft

Soft hands are a sign of good self-care and hygiene. Dryness, rough texture, or cracked skin on the hands can result from harsh soaps, weather changes, or frequent washing. Luckily, with a simple routine and the right products, you can restore and maintain soft, smooth hands at home. Here is how to make hands soft.

  1. Wash Gently
Start by using a mild hand soap that doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils. Avoid hot water, as it can dry out your hands. Use lukewarm water instead and gently pat your hands dry with a towel rather than rubbing them.
  2. Exfoliate Weekly
Once or twice a week, exfoliate your hands to remove dead skin. You can use a store-bought scrub or make one at home by mixing sugar with a bit of olive oil or honey. Rub it gently on your hands for a minute, then rinse and pat dry. This helps your skin absorb moisture better.
  3. Apply Moisturiser Often
Use a rich hand cream or lotion, especially after washing your hands. Look for ingredients like shea butter, glycerin, coconut oil, or aloe vera. These help lock in moisture and protect the skin from drying out. Apply the moisturiser several times a day, and always before bed.
  4. Use Gloves When Needed
Wear rubber gloves when doing dishes, laundry, or cleaning with chemicals. This protects your skin from harsh substances that cause dryness or irritation. In cold weather, wear warm gloves outside to prevent the skin from cracking due to wind and low temperatures.
  5. Treat Overnight
For very dry hands, apply a thick layer of moisturising cream or petroleum jelly at night. Then, wear cotton gloves or wrap your hands in a clean cloth. This overnight treatment gives the skin time to heal and soften while you sleep.
  6. Stay Hydrated and Eat Well
Drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your skin hydrated from within. Also, eat foods rich in vitamins A, C, and E, which support healthy skin. Nuts, seeds, fruits, and vegetables all contribute to softer hands.
