    Learning how to mute words on Twitter can help you control the type of content you see on your timeline. Sometimes certain words, topics, or phrases appear frequently and may be distracting or unwanted. By muting specific words, you can prevent posts containing those words from appearing in your notifications or timeline.

    The muting feature on Twitter, now widely known as X (Twitter), allows users to filter out content without unfollowing people. This tool helps create a more comfortable and personalized social media experience.

    1. Table of Contents

      Toggle
      • Open the Twitter App
      • Go to Settings and Privacy
      • Open the Privacy and Safety Section
      • Add a Word or Phrase to Mute
      • Choose the Duration
      • Manage Your Muted Words List

      Open the Twitter App

    Start by opening the platform where you want to mute the words.

    • Launch the Twitter app on your phone
    • Log in to your account if you are not already signed in
    • Ensure your app is updated to the latest version

    You can also access the feature through the website version.

    1. Go to Settings and Privacy

    Next, navigate to the account settings.

    • Tap your profile icon in the corner of the screen
    • Select Settings and Privacy from the menu
    • Scroll until you find the privacy options

    This section contains tools for controlling your experience.

    1. Open the Privacy and Safety Section

    The muting feature is located within privacy controls.

    • Tap Privacy and Safety
    • Look for the Mute and Block option
    • Select Muted Words

    This area allows you to manage all the words you have muted.

    1. Add a Word or Phrase to Mute

    You can now add the word you want to block.

    • Tap the Add or plus (+) button
    • Type the word, phrase, or hashtag you want to mute
    • Choose where you want it muted, such as timeline or notifications

    Once saved, posts containing that word will be hidden.

    1. Choose the Duration

    You can decide how long the word should remain muted.

    • Select 24 hours for temporary muting
    • Choose 7 days or 30 days
    • Select Forever if you want to mute the word permanently

    This option allows you to control how long the filter remains active.

    1. Manage Your Muted Words List

    You can review or remove muted words at any time.

    • Return to the Muted Words section in settings
    • View all the words you have muted
    • Edit or delete words if you no longer want them filtered

    Managing the list keeps your timeline relevant to your interests.
