    Choosing and Preparing Baby Marrow

When selecting baby marrow, look for firm, glossy skin without any soft spots or blemishes. Smaller ones are usually more tender and flavorful. Before cooking, wash them thoroughly under running water to remove any dirt or residue. There’s no need to peel them since the skin is edible and contains nutrients. You can cut them into rounds, strips, cubes, or even grate them, depending on the recipe you are making.

Different Ways to Prepare Baby Marrow

    Sautéing

Sautéed baby marrow is quick and easy. Slice it into rounds or strips and heat a little olive oil in a pan. Add the baby marrow and cook for about 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until it becomes tender but still slightly crisp. Season with salt, pepper, garlic, or herbs like thyme and parsley.

    Roasting

Roasting enhances the natural sweetness of baby marrow. Cut it into chunks or slices and toss it with olive oil, salt, and your favorite spices. Spread it out on a baking tray and roast at 200°C (400°F) for 15-20 minutes until golden brown. It makes a great side dish or can be added to salads.

    Grilling

For a smoky flavor, grilling baby marrow is a great option. Slice it lengthwise, brush with olive oil, and season lightly. Place the slices on a hot grill or grill pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side until you see grill marks. Grilled baby marrow pairs well with meats, fish, or as a topping for sandwiches and wraps.

    Steaming

Steaming preserves the nutrients and results in a softer texture. Cut the baby marrow into small pieces and place them in a steamer basket over boiling water. Cover and steam for about 5 minutes until tender. You can season with lemon juice, butter, or a sprinkle of herbs.

    Adding to Soups and Stews

Baby marrow is excellent in soups and stews. Chop it into small cubes and add it towards the end of the cooking process to retain some texture. It blends well with tomatoes, beans, and other vegetables in hearty dishes.

    Raw in Salads

If you prefer a fresh and crunchy option, baby marrow can be eaten raw. Slice or spiralize it into thin ribbons and mix it with salad greens, cherry tomatoes, and a light dressing. It adds a refreshing taste and is a great low-calorie addition to meals.
