Sending your CV via Gmail is a straightforward but important step when applying for jobs or internships. The way you send it can make a strong first impression on the recruiter or hiring manager. Whether you are using a computer or a mobile device, following the correct process ensures your document arrives in the right format and looks professional. Here is how to send CV via Gmail.
- Prepare Your CV
Before opening Gmail, make sure your CV is updated with your latest qualifications, experience, and contact information. Save it in a widely accepted format such as PDF or DOCX. A PDF is preferred because it maintains formatting across different devices. Name your file professionally, for example, “Jane-Doe-CV.pdf” instead of “finalcv2.pdf.” This small detail shows attention to professionalism. - Log in to Your Gmail Account
Go to the Gmail website or open the Gmail app on your phone. Enter your email address and password to log in. Using a professional email address, ideally one with your name, adds credibility to your application. - Compose a New Email
Click on the “Compose” button on a computer, or the pencil icon in the Gmail app on mobile. This opens a new email window. In the “To” field, type the recruiter’s or company’s email address carefully to avoid errors. - Write a Clear Subject Line
Your subject line should be direct and professional. For example: “Application for Sales Executive – Jane Doe.” This allows the recipient to quickly understand your purpose. Avoid vague subjects like “Job Application” without context. - Write a Brief and Polite Message
In the body of the email, introduce yourself and state why you are sending your CV. Keep it short and professional. For example:
“Dear [Recipient’s Name],
I am writing to apply for the Sales Executive position as advertised. Please find attached my CV for your consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.” - Attach Your CV File
Click on the paperclip icon at the bottom of the email window to attach your CV. Browse your device to locate the file and wait for it to upload completely. On mobile, tap the paperclip or “Attach file” option to do the same. If your file is larger than Gmail’s 25 MB limit, upload it to Google Drive and share the link in your email instead. - Review Before Sending
Check for spelling and grammar errors in your email. Confirm the correct email address and that your CV is attached. Once you are sure, click “Send.” - Confirm Delivery
After sending, go to your “Sent” folder to ensure the email was successfully delivered.
