Huawei IDEOS Slim S7 Review, Price (Ksh 39,999) and Specs

I have had the Huawei IDEOS Slim S7 tab for the last five days and I must say that I am impressed. I have been using the iPad one before and when I got my hand on the slim S7, I don’t even know where my iPad One is. I am used to carrying a laptop for heavy work and also the iPad in-case I need computing on the go.

The Slim S7 is lighter, slimmer and more easy to work with. The fact that it uses the normal SIM and not the micro-SIM also makes it have an advantage over the iPad. Getting wi-fi in Nairobi is kind of hard and the only thing we have to rely on is the 3G. Loading airtime onto iPads is a challenge especially the iPad One which does not even have a dialer. The IDEOS S7 has a dialer.

The tablet runs on Android 2.2 and has a capacitive 7″ screen which has replaced the spongy screen witnessed on the IDEOS S7 tab. The screen also supports multi-touch. The tab supports WiFi b/g/n and Bluetooth and I love the fact that there is tethering on the Android so I can turn my home into a wi-fi hotspot with this device. I always have to use Joikuspot on Nokia for this.

You can easily connect your projector or HDTV using the DHMI port on the tab. There is also a docking port below the tab.The touchscreen is WVGA 800×480 resolution but for a budget tab, you can understand this. It is way efficient for its target market. The homescreens has been split into work, entertainment, communications, favorites and the full apps categories. The Android 2.2 Froyo is not as slick as Honeycomb but for the category of tabs in the range, Huawei beats them hands down.

The battery is the Li-Ion 3250 mAh which I think can go for up to 7 hours as per my experience.

The tablet sells for Ksh 39,999 exclusively at Safaricom shops while the older S7 which is is heavier and not capacitive sells for Ksh 34,999. I don’t know what you guys thinks of the prices but for the target market, this must be very ideal.
