IEBC Gazettes Consolata Wakwabubi As New UDA Nominated Senator

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially replaced Gloria Orwoba with Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi as the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) nominated senator.

In a Gazette Notice dated August 14, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon confirmed that Orwoba’s name has been removed from the list of women nominated to the Senate by the ruling party, and Wakwabubi has been appointed in her place.

Wakwabubi, who comes from Kimilili in Bungoma County, was listed in the party’s original 2022 list of nominees and has now been formally gazetted to take over the position.

This announcement follows UDA’s internal disciplinary process, which resulted in Orwoba’s expulsion from the party after she was accused of disloyalty. She had openly supported opposition activities, which led the party to take action against her.

On May 19, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said the party’s Disciplinary Committee had unanimously agreed to terminate Orwoba’s membership, citing a petition from two party members who claimed she had violated the party constitution.

The IEBC Gazette notice comes just a day after the High Court dismissed Orwoba’s case challenging her removal. Justice Lawrence Mugambi ruled that she had not proven the UDA Disciplinary Committee disobeyed any court order.
