iHub CEO Mary Gicharu Sent Home, Nekesa Were Takes Over

iHub CEO Mary Gicharu was sent on compulsory leave on Friday after she questioned transactions which have been going on between iHub, Ushahidi and BRCK.

Reporting on the sacking, iHub sources indicates that Mary Gicharu was sent on leave by Erik Hersman who still calls the shots as the company faces serious management challenges.

Employees were surprised to see Erik Hersman interviewing them over the case against Mary Gicharu. There was no communication of the return of Erik who sold his stake.

Erik seems to be back at iHub while he has also registered another company called iHub Software Consulting, hoping to cash in on government tenders. BRCK’s survival was pegged on the government awarding Erik and his crew tender to locally build the tablets which were to be delivered to primary schools.

This deal couldn’t materialise as BRCK is a shell company without any capacity to deliver on what they are promising.

At iHub, Erik has been accusing Mary of mismanagement of finances as well as not being able to handle the exit of the senior and technical employees. Seems like Mary will have to

Mary Gicharu’s exit follows that of Finance Director Rosemary Njeri and previous CEO Josiah Mugambi who left in unclear circumstances. Documents in our possessions indicate that Rosemary was sacked when she decided to resign. Her resignation was disallowed and then she was put through some “disciplinary hearings” where Erik was the complainant and judge.

Mary Gicharu becomes the 10th iHub employee to leave the tech hub in recent months as scandals of mismanagement of finances continues to dog the hub. It is reported that finances have not been properly handled and now Erik Hersman who still call the shots even after selling his stake to a group of investors, is determined to see the wife of his friend Daudi Were who was accused of raping employees take over.

Nekesa Were is the perfect replacement who can hide all the misdeeds of Erik Hersman and crew at iHub, Ushahidi and BRCK. All these firms have been poorly managed by individuals connected to Erik.

The mismanagement is reported to have been the reason why Ory Okolloh and team resigned from the Ushahidi board and sold their stakes. As Ory and friends continue to shout how the country is mismanaged, they have conveniently blocked any attempt to candidly address the problems at iHub and Ushahidi.

Mary Gicharu replaced Kamal Bhattacharya who followed former iHub Director of Partnerships, Njoki Gichinga,to Safaricom.

We will continue to watch the going ons at iHub as always.
