A group of doctors from Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala, India, arrived in Kenya to pay their final respects to the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital is the facility Raila was before he died on October 15, 2025.

Accompanied by Raila’s daughter Rosemary Odinga, the doctors were received in Mombasa by Governor Abdulswamad Sherrif Nassir, who also serves as the ODM Deputy Party Leader.

“They are in Kenya to pay their final respects to a man whose life and legacy transcended borders. The global outpouring of love for Baba is a reflection of his extraordinary journey; one defined by courage, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to justice and humanity,” Nassir posted on X.

“May his spirit continue to inspire us to build the Kenya he dreamed of – united, just, and full of hope.”

Raila had been to a hospital in Mumbai before he flew to Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Hospital, two hours away for further treatment on his leg.

Raila was drawn to Ayurvedic treatment centres, the same form of therapy his daughter, Rosemary, sought in India in 2022.

Rosemary received Ayurveda therapy for secondary optic atrophy, a condition causing vision loss, and after four months, her sight was getting better.

By 2022, Rosemary revealed that her sight was restored, igniting a global interest in the traditional therapy.

Ayurveda is a traditional healthcare system that deals with the knowledge or science of life.

The treatment is governed by the notion that the body is made up of three constituents: Vata (air), Pit (fire) and Kapha (water). Ayurvedic doctors believe that for a person to be healthy, these three components must be balanced.

To cure diseases, the treatment involves special diets, herbal remedies, massage therapy, yoga and meditation.

For Raila, he underwent Ayurveda therapy for multiple conditions such as high blood pressure, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes, following his lifelong injuries sustained in politics.

He, however, succumbed while receiving medical treatment at a private hospital in Kerala State, India, aged 80.

His death has drawn international mourning.
