Janet McTeer is a distinguished English actress, born on August 5, 1961, in Wallsend, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, to parents Jean and Alan McTeer.

Raised in York from the age of six, she developed an early passion for acting after watching a performance of “She Stoops to Conquer” at the York Theatre Royal at 16.

This experience led her to work as a waitress at the same theater, where a chance encounter with actor Gary Oldman prompted her to apply to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA).

After successfully graduating from RADA, McTeer embarked on a prolific career across stage, television, and film, earning a reputation as one of the most versatile and commanding performers of her generation.
