Jessica Lu is an American actress, model, and performer, widely recognized for her role as Ming Huang on the MTV television series Awkward.
Born on April 18, 1985, in Schaumburg, Illinois, a northwest suburb of Chicago, Lu grew up in a culturally rich household with parents of South Korean descent.
Her father, of Chinese and Japanese heritage, is a photographer, while her mother, of Chinese descent, is a singer.
Together, they ran a restaurant in Chicago after immigrating to the United States, providing a unique stage for Jessica’s early performances.
Lu later pursued her passion formally, graduating with honors from Columbia College Chicago with a degree in Musical Theatre Performance in 2008.

After moving to Los Angeles in 2008, Lu’s acting career took off.
She landed her breakout role as Ming Huang in Awkward (2011–2016), a critically acclaimed MTV series that showcased her comedic timing and relatability.

She appeared as an insufferable hipster named Bronwyn in American Horror Story: Hotel (2015), earning praise as one of PopSugar’s “25 Best American Horror Story Guest Stars.”
