There are new ways you can help the situation in Libya. You dont need to leave the comfort of your home or have too much technical experience. Actually UN Online Volunteer Service (OVS) has now teamed up with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and the Standby Task Force to support crisis mapping efforts in Libya. This means that if you have not been a member or is already a member of UN Online Volunteer, you can now join the UN as a volunteer to provide direct support to the humanitarian response in Libya.
The Libya Crisis Map is a tool meant to help both OCHA and UN agencies like UNHCR, WFP, DPKO and the Red Cross to monitor situations and develop a response mechanism to the situation on the ground. The service was activated at the request of OCHA’s Information Services Section.
There are basically 5 ways you can help in Libya from your laptop or PC.
    • Media Monitoring
    • GPS Support
    • Verification Support
    • Report Creation
    • Analysis Support

You don’t need any or much of prior experience in crisis mapping.  The UN volunteer coordinators will give you the basic training you need to start helping. The experience will help you in the future and also just satisfy you as one who helped create postive change in the world.
