Jordan Staal is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre and the captain of the Carolina Hurricanes of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Born on September 10, 1988, in Thunder Bay, Ontario, he stands 6 feet 4 inches tall and weighs around 220 pounds.
Known for his size, defensive reliability, faceoff skills, and leadership, Staal shoots left and has built a long career as a two-way forward.

Jordan is the third brother, and the youngest is Jared Staal, who appeared in two NHL games for the Hurricanes in 2013 (notably on a line with Eric and Jordan) before pursuing a coaching career.

Career
Staal played major junior hockey for the Peterborough Petes of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he helped win the J. Ross Robertson Cup in 2006.
Drafted second overall by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2006, he made the NHL immediately and enjoyed a standout rookie season, setting several age-related records including youngest to score two shorthanded goals in a game, youngest to score on a penalty shot, and youngest to record a hat trick.
He won the Stanley Cup with the Penguins in 2009, contributing in the playoffs.
In 2012, Staal signed a long-term deal with the Carolina Hurricanes, joining his brother Eric.
He has served as an alternate captain and later full captain, becoming a cornerstone of the franchise with his strong two-way play and leadership.
Over his career, he has accumulated more than 300 goals and 400 assists for roughly 750 points while excelling in defensive situations and faceoffs.
He reached his 1,000th NHL game in 2021 and has been a key part of the Hurricanes’ recent contending teams.
Internationally, he won gold with Canada at the 2007 IIHF World Championship.
Accolades
In his rookie season (2006-07), Staal was a Calder Memorial Trophy finalist and named to the NHL All-Rookie Team.
He was also a finalist for the Frank J. Selke Trophy as the league’s top defensive forward.
