Newly sworn into office Kisii Member of County Assembly of Jubilee Party Redempta Moraa has vowed to champion for women rights.
She however called on women to respect their husbands adding that this lays the foundation for mutual respect in marriages where incidents of gender based violence had been rampant.
“Let there be mutual respect between both parties, I think this would help maintain tranquility in our families,” she said.
Moraa was sworn in early Tuesday, replacing Clare Obino, an ODM party MCA after a long court battle.
The court ruled she was erroneously picked as Jubilee Party nominee while still in ODM.
Speaking to journalists , Moraa described as unfortunate the avalanche of gender based cases being reported from the larger Gusii region
Her swearing took weeks later after a court upheld a ruling that axed Obino from the assembly.
She had been battling in court to dislodge Obino for over two years arguing her initial gazzettment was erroneous because she was in ODM.
Obino was kicked out during the 2023 court ruling.
