Pathologists at Lancet Kenya have finally conducted the DNA test for the much talked about Kakamega twins in a bid to solve their identity puzzle.

The identical twins, Sharon Mathias and Melon Lutenyo, had their tests done on Friday after intervention from Multiples to Mutiles Society.

Speaking on the process, the founder and chairperson of the society, Dr Elizabeth Wala, noted that her organization read about the families’ plight and reached out to help.

She noted: “We first tried to contact Kemri but it was complicated and so we approached Lancet.”

Dr Wala further revealed that Lancet offered to carry out the tests at discounted rates.

Initially, the Kenya Medical Research Institute (Kemri) had promised to conduct the tests for free but withdrew the offer last minute.

They stated that they withdrew the offer to let the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) do its investigative work.

According to reports, an official from Kemri who sought anonymity affirmed that the girls were still undergoing therapy and counseling, adding that since the matter was now in the hands of the DCI, Kemri would await further instructions on the matter.

On Thursday, the DCI asked the families involved to report to the agency’s offices in Kakamega Town to offer information that will help the DCI establish whether any criminal act was committed.

Dr Wala concluded that the results of the test will be released after one week.
