Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has paid an emotional tribute to businessman Stephen Ngei and his wife, Giannaphina Mumbua, who died in a tragic road accident at Masimba along the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway.
In a condolence message issued on Saturday, Kalonzo described Ngei as a close friend and a self-made entrepreneur whose life story inspired many Kenyans.
“Stephen embodied the true spirit of a self-made entrepreneur,” Kalonzo said. “Rising from humble beginnings as a second-hand clothes hawker, he went on to build Makindu Motors Ltd into one of the country’s most successful automobile assembly companies.”
The opposition leader said Ngei’s determination, vision and commitment enabled him to create employment opportunities for many while serving as a role model for aspiring entrepreneurs across the country.
He also paid tribute to Giannaphina Mumbua, describing the couple as a symbol of strength, unity and grace.
“Their untimely departure is a great loss not only to their family but also to the business community, the people of Ukambani and the nation at large,” Kalonzo said.
Quoting Isaiah 41:10, the Wiper leader prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family during the difficult period.
On behalf of his family and the Wiper Patriotic Front, Kalonzo extended his heartfelt condolences to the couple’s children, relatives, friends and all those whose lives were touched by Stephen and Giannaphina.
The two died following a road accident at Masimba on the Nairobi–Mombasa Highway. Further details surrounding the circumstances of the crash had not been made public by the time of publication.
