Gor Mahia are currently engaging Karim Nizigiyimana in a bid to have his contract which is ending in January renewed, the club’s Chief Executive Officer Lordvick Aduda has confirmed.

Aduda has also disclosed that the player’s name was not registered with Caf for Champions League football next season but they intend to do so once the contract talks have matured.

Caf offered an extension for the free registration of players to Thursday this week.

“I can confirm that we have started renegotiating Karim’s new contract. The player is willing to stay and has told us as much and we are also still in need of his services,” Aduda told Kahawa Tungu.

Rumors are rife that the player could be warming up to a move to the Zambian Super League with Rwandan international Fitina Omborenga being lined up to take his spot.

Aduda has since moved to dispel the reports saying that the club still values the services of the Burundian captain.

“Karim is a quality player. He has told us that he wants to stay and as a club we are happy with what has done for us and would still want him to stay.”

The 29-year-old Bujumbura-born was part of Gor Mahia’s invincible squad which won the 2015 Kenyan Premier League title unscathed.

An ankle injury late last year, however, saw him miss out the better part of the 2018 season but has since recovered and is back in the team.
