The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and the Energy & Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) have assured consumers that the petroleum fuels available in the country meet the required quality standards, following concerns raised on social media.

In a joint statement, the two regulatory bodies confirmed that all imported petroleum fuels undergo rigorous testing and certification before being distributed in the market. Recent confirmatory tests conducted on fuel samples from multiple retail stations, including those mentioned in online reports, reaffirmed compliance with the recommended Research Octane Number (RON) ratings set by Kenyan standards.

According to the test results, sampled fuel stations recorded RON values exceeding the required 95 rating, with some premium fuels achieving up to 96.1 RON, ensuring that they meet or surpass quality expectations.

KEBS and EPRA also cautioned consumers against relying on unverified gadgets claiming to test fuel quality, emphasizing that accurate RON ratings can only be determined in controlled laboratory conditions.

The agencies reassured the public of their commitment to transparency and strict quality assurance measures, urging consumers to continue trusting the integrity of fuel supplied across the country.
