The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced a temporary closure of part of the Gitaru Interchange to allow for major road repairs. The affected section connects Waiyaki Way to the Southern and Western Bypasses.
Speaking on Friday evening, KeNHA Director General Kung’u Ndung’u said the closure will affect the Southwestern Loop heading to the Southern Bypass. The closure is necessary to facilitate the reconstruction of the South-Western Interchange ramp and slip roads.
According to KeNHA, the works will begin on June 28 and are expected to last for 45 days, ending on August 11, 2025. The authority has urged motorists to use alternative routes during the period to avoid inconvenience.
Drivers heading to the Southern Bypass from Waiyaki Way have been advised to use the Kikuyu link road through the Sigona Golf Club junction. Those traveling from Nakuru towards the Southern Bypass should instead use the newly built Southern Loop, which includes a diversion placed at the median of the Southern Bypass.
Motorists approaching Waiyaki Way from the Western Bypass are advised to use the Muguku Interchange and then proceed through the Kikuyu link road via the Sigona Golf Club junction.
KeNHA has asked all road users to follow the traffic control signs and cooperate with traffic police and marshals who will be on-site to guide them.
