KENHA engineer found dead in Malindi hotel bathroom

Police are investigating an incident where a Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) engineer was found dead in the bathroom of a hotel room in Malindi, Kilifi County, on Friday morning.

Bernard Gladstone Wangusi, was discovered lying lifeless in the bathroom of Room Six at Malindi Pearl Hotel in Malindi Central.

Wangusi had checked into the hotel at about 6:15pm on Thursday, September 3, together with his colleagues from Lamu.

His driver went to wake him up at about 9:50am on Friday to take him to Malindi Airport when he found him unresponsive in the bathroom.

Police officers visited the scene alongside Crime Scene Investigation officers from Malindi, who documented the scene.

Investigators said the deceased had no visible physical injuries.

Treatment notes recovered at the scene from Aga Khan University Hospital indicated that Wangusi had been suffering from diabetes.

His body was removed to Malindi Star Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem examination to establish the cause of death.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the sudden death.

Meanwhile a 64-year-old man was found dead outside his sister-in-law’s house in Nyalgunga area, Suna West, Migori County.

Thomas Agatha was discovered lying on his back near the main door of the house at about 7pm on Friday by his sister-in-law as she returned home from her daily activities.

Agatha had left his home at about 9am to attend to his usual activities but did not return.

The witness found him unresponsive with his jumper and slippers removed and placed beside him. His other clothes were intact.

Police visited the scene and established that the deceased had no visible physical injuries.

Police were also informed that Agatha had been suffering from an illness intermittently.

The body was photographed and documented at the scene before being moved to Migori County Mortuary, where it was preserved pending further action.

Police are expected to establish the circumstances surrounding the death.
