Captain Jacob Ojee and experienced Kenya Harlequins winger Cyprian Kuto have both made a return to the Kenya 7s squad as Shujaa go for the final push in what has been an underwhelming 2018-19 World Rugby Sevens Series campaign.

London and Paris host the final two legs of the season with Kenya still fighting for their core status alongside Japan and Wales.

Ojee, who missed the Singapore and Japan legs due to academic commitments, had arguably been Shujaa’s standout performer and his return, alongside the addition of Kuto, will be a welcome addition to head coach Paul Murunga’s side.

Kuto made his debut for Kenya Sevens back in 2012 and his old hand could prove crucial for the local boys.

“I am happy to be back in the team, so that we can achieve our set targets in these last two legs of the series,” Kuto told Kenya Rugby Union (KRU)

“I had a hip problem in Vancouver that has since been dealt from the rehab sessions with Lamech Bogonko and Michael Shamia. I am going to put my best foot forward,” he vowed.

Also making their return to Murunga’s squad are Brian Wandera and Charles Omondi.

The boss retained the core of his team with the likes of Vincent Onyala, Andrew Amonde, Bush Mwale, Daniel Sikuta, Eden Agero and Daniel Taabu making the cut as expected.

    Pool B in London

Shujaa will get their May 26th-27th London 7s campaign underway against Series title contenders Fiji, before battling a much-improved Samoa and then wrapping up their Pool B duties against France.

Like has been the norm for much of the season, the 2015-16 Singapore champions will be aiming to rack up more points that relegation rivals Japan and Wales.

Shujaa, 13th in the standings, currently lead the three-way relegation dogfight with 26 points, one above Wales with Japan, the tail enders a further three points behind.

From London, the final leg will be held in Paris on the 1st and 2nd of June where not only will we know the team that loses their core status but also the top four teams who will grab a direct ticket to the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
