Kenya and Ethiopia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and advancing peace and security in the Horn of Africa, following high-level talks held in Addis Ababa.
President William Ruto flew to Ethiopia on December 23, 2025 and met Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed for talks.
During the visit, leaders from the two neighbouring countries underscored the importance of stability, dialogue and African-led solutions as the foundation for sustainable development in the region.
The discussions were anchored on a shared vision of deeper economic integration, accelerated digital growth and inclusive prosperity.
A key outcome of the talks was an agreement by both governments to support Ethio Telecom and Safaricom as they explore strategic joint investment opportunities across regional markets.
The initiative is expected to enhance cross-border digital connectivity, foster innovation and expand access to telecommunications services across East Africa and the wider Horn.
Officials noted that closer cooperation in the digital economy would play a critical role in driving trade, financial inclusion and job creation, while also strengthening people-to-people links between the two countries.
The meeting also addressed broader regional peace and security issues, with both sides reiterating their resolve to work together to promote stability in the Horn of Africa through consultation, cooperation and regional frameworks.
Ruto described the talks as productive and a reflection of their longstanding partnership, pledging to continue deepening collaboration in political, economic and security spheres for the benefit of the region.
