According to Nairobi Star, a local Daily, Kenya’s National Security and Intelligence Service (NSIS) is not happy with the BlackBerry donations by USA to IIEC. The intelligence body is not happy arguing that the American CIA was able to view results before they reached the National tallying centre.
NSIS is said to have been very much angered with the move and tried to block the usage of the devices. It is good to donations but sometimes we get all kinds of donations in this country. 21,000 Netbooks would have been better donation than 21,000 Blackberry’s since they cost almost the same with some netbooks even cheaper.
Calls to IIEC officials on this matter have not been answered.
What do you think of the NSIS argument. Do you think the results were secure? Was USA privy to the tally before the IIEC

IF WE CANNOT CONTROL OUR AFFAIRS,CERTAINLY EVENTS WILL CONTROL US.SOME POWERS (UNCLE SAM)CAPABLE OF CONTROLLING SUCH EVENTS WEARS THE SHOES WITH REPERCUSIONS. THAT IS WHERE WE ARE.
WERE WE NOT CPNTROLLED BY EVENTS AFTER THE 2007 ELECTIONS!WHO CAME IN TO RESTORE ORDER – AMERICA IN THE NAME OF INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY.
WHAT WERE YOU EXPECTING AFTER THE DONATIONS! MONITORING OFCOURSE.
Nonsense! NSIS should embrace the value of technology. Technology demonstrated immense benefits in the just concluded referendum. NSIS is allergic to change — their thinking is very retrogressive! Technology is the way to go, for development/progress to thrive! let NSIS give us a break! What did they do after 2007 elections when Kenya was about to burn…ZERO!!
Please inform NSIS to follow suit and get hitech coz we are living in a highly technical era. Any organization that is technology averse is doomed.Android phones will help NSIS detect terrorist activities and relay the information in real time so as to avert collateral damage. I support IIEC 100% in embracing technology and NSIS should work round the clock to protect the data from Americans after all they ought to have an R & D department..

Am surprised by this statement. Why is NSIS concerned about the fact that somebody else knows or may know? did they have anything to hide given a chance? The phones given were for transmitting data through a mobile company. NSIS is hooked to the mobile telecommunication companies for obvious reasons. IS the US embassy connected as well or do they have access to the data simply because they supplied the phones. so if the supplier of phones has access to data transmitted through the mobile technology, what about NOKIA, Motorola, Siemens, etc. do they have access to data transmitted over the phones they distribute. What is NSIS exactly scared of?????
Daniel, i am of the opinion that we may not have had anything to hide from the world in terms of the resuls but the respect that we deserve as a sovereign state and are responsible for our own actions. that respect is what matters adn we all know that americans are way more advanced than us and may be able to intercept and decode messages from whichever provider may be childs play to them as among tech superpowers. the issuance of the phones was not again in my opinion with good intentions but to make sure that they monitor the flow of the numbers into bomas server

If it is true, then “the big brother syndrome” is quite alive… It is unfair for the US access our national pride even before WE KENYANS….

..BB’s banned in Saudia and other Gulf states ironically due to [RIM’s] tight encryption. Mideast Governments want to know who’s talking and to who and about what and it seems they have a solid argument- terrorists can easily abuse this privacy privilege
