39 year old actor, Kevin Hart has stepped down from hosting the 2019 Oscars Awards after derogatory tweets from the past, against the gay community resurfaced.

Hart tried to defend himself saying that he has apologized for the tweets many times before but people keep using it against him to bring him down.

He later apologized and stepped down citing that he would not want to be a distraction on  night that should be celebrated by many creatives.

“I have made the choice to step down from hosting this year’s Oscar’s….this is because I do not want to be a distraction on a night that should be celebrated by so many amazing talented artists. I sincerely apologize to the LGBTQ community for my insensitive words from my past.” He posted on Twitter.

“I’m sorry that I hurt people.. I am evolving and want to continue to do so. My goal is to bring people together not tear us apart. Much love & appreciation to the Academy. I hope we can meet again.” he added.

Hard was first elated when he shared the news about working with the Academy Awards.

“I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars, I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time,” he said, “I appreciate the @TheAcademy for the opportunity… now it’s time to rise to the occasion. #Oscars ”

He would have joined the countable number of Black Americans who have hosted the Academy Awards before, that is, Richard Pryor, Chris Rock, Whoopi Goldberg and Sammy Davis Jr..

It is not yet clear who will be replacing Kevin Hart.
