A Kisii school owner has been accused of extorting unsuspecting parents in form of school fees among other things.
The school director/ principal of Kiage Tumaini High School only identified as Dr Kiage is said to be subjecting his students, employees and parents to inhumane conditions.
According to sources privy to the details, Mr Kiage’s school shot to fame after he ensured that most of the students passed their KCSE examinations. This is because he knew the high ranking officials in charge of the national examinations.
Once a senior teacher at Kisii National School, he opened up a school of his own but not to better a society, but to steal from them.
Kahawa Tungu has learnt that the teacher is also an employee of the County Government but still has enough time in his hands to micromanage his teachers who apparently make a meager Sh13,000 per month.
This money is however subject to unreasonable deductions. For example, a teacher once had their pay cut for speaking to a visitor within the school compound. They are also not allowed to reside without the school compound.
“No teacher is allowed to go outside the gate, as that is punishable by 5000 fine,” a source said.
When it comes to the school fees, parents part with more than Sh120,000 in a single school year.
The school does not provide parents and guardians with fees structures because the money he asks for every term is subject to change.
Sources intimated to Kahawa Tungu that a while back he demanded that parents pay Sh5,000 per term for a bus. He allegedly plans on purchasing a 56 seater bus but the bizarre thing is that the school has a capacity of 100 students without parking space.
The learning institution sits on a 100 by 100 piece of land, meaning that the bus will have to be parked elsewhere.
Every single term he charges a motivation fee of Sh5,000, a remedial fee of Sh3,000 and some Sh5,000 for unnecessary school trips.
He has also found new ways to punish the parents whereby he calls for parents’ meetings which he shows up to late in the evening.

It has also been said that social amenities such as a play ground are unheard of. Students caught looking out the balconies are sent home to collect barbed wire, 4 iron sheets and a couple of posts.
Parents now want Dr Kiage to stop extorting them as he hides behind Christianity. He apparently has found a new way to advertise the school; through the Seventh Day Adventist church.
“The owner masks behind Christianity, basing that the school follows strict rules of Seventh Day Adventist Church and even advertises his school on their lesson booklets!” the source confirms.
