The mother of Karungo wa Thang’wa, Mama Lucia Wangui Thang’wa, has died at the age of 93.
Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua mourned her as a true matriarch who was a shining example of a hardworking and devoted mother.
Gachagua said Mama Lucia, together with her late husband Stephen Kimani Thang’wa, a primary school teacher, raised thirteen children and instilled strong values in them.
He noted that through her nurturing and guidance, she brought up many accomplished children who continue to contribute positively to society. Among them are Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, Fr. Michael Thang’wa, a Catholic priest, and Kihara wa Thang’wa, a global humanitarian, as well as other distinguished sons and daughters.
According to Gachagua, Mama Lucia died on Thursday afternoon after developing breathing complications. She was surrounded by her son, Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, and her caregivers during her final moments.
“My heartfelt condolences go to Senator Karungo wa Thang’wa, the entire Thang’wa family, relatives, and friends during this difficult time. May the soul of Mama Lucia rest in eternal peace and perpetual light shine upon her forever,” Gachagua said.
