    Early Life

Kim Wilde was born Kim Smith on November 18, 1960, in Chiswick, London. She comes from a musical family—her father, Marty Wilde, was a well-known singer and songwriter, while her mother, Joyce Baker, was a member of the vocal group The Vernons Girls.

She attended schools in London and Hertfordshire and later studied at St. Albans College of Art & Design, completing her studies in 1980.

    Music Career

Kim Wilde was signed to Rak Records in 1980 and quickly rose to fame with her debut single “Kids in America,” which reached No. 2 on the UK Singles Chart. Her self-titled debut album was also a commercial success and made her one of Britain’s biggest new pop stars.

Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Wilde enjoyed remarkable chart consistency. Between 1981 and 1996, she released 25 singles that reached the UK Top 50, earning her the title of the most charted British solo female artist of the 1980s.

Some of her most notable albums include Select, Catch as Catch Can, Another Step, and Close. Her 1986 cover of “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” became a major international hit, topping charts in the United States, Canada, and Australia, making her one of the few British female artists to reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

In the 2000s and 2010s, Wilde successfully reinvented herself with new music and nostalgia-driven tours. Her duet with Nena, “Anyplace, Anywhere, Anytime,” became a major hit across Europe.

She later signed with EMI Germany and Sony Music Germany, releasing albums such as Never Say Never, Come Out and Play, Snapshots, Here Come the Aliens, and the compilation Pop Don’t Stop: Greatest Hits.
