The Kisii County Deputy Clerk, Daniel Mbaka Omwoyo, was Monday arraigned to face corruption-related charges.
At the Anti-Corruption Court in Kisii, Omwoyo was charged with abuse of office, in violation of Section 46, as read with Section 48(1) of the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crimes Act No. 3 of 2003.
Prosecution told court that on or around October 24, 2017, at the Kisii County Assembly, Omwoyo used his position to improperly confer a benefit by appointing Everline Moraa Maraburi to the role of Clerical Officer.
This appointment was made without the approval of the Board or adherence to established recruitment procedures.
Omwoyo pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail of Sh50,000 or an alternative bond of Sh100,000, with one surety of a similar amount.
Originally, Omwoyo was set to be charged alongside Kisii County’s former Speaker, David Ondimu Kombo, who failed to appear in court.
The court has issued a summons for Kombo to appear on October 8, 2025, to answer to the charges.
