Kisii County workers will have to wait longer for their July salaries after the county administration announced a delay in processing and releasing the payments.

An internal memo dated August 12, 2026, and signed by the County Secretary and Head of County Public Service, informed all chief officers and county staff that payment of July salaries would be delayed.

The administration attributed the delay to the late approval and uploading of the county budget, which it said had affected the processing and release of funds required to pay employees.

“The County Government wishes to notify you that salary for the month of July, 2026 will be delayed,” the memo states.

The county said efforts were underway to facilitate the release of the funds but did not provide a specific date when workers could expect to receive their salaries.

“The delay has been occasioned by delayed approval and uploading of the county budget. This has affected the processing and release of funds,” the notice said.

The administration urged employees to remain patient and understanding as it worked to resolve the situation.

The delay is likely to place additional financial pressure on county workers who depend on their monthly salaries to meet household expenses, repay loans, pay school fees and settle other financial obligations.

The county government expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the delayed payments and assured staff that efforts to facilitate the release of funds were ongoing.

“The County Government most sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by the delay and appreciates your continued patience and understanding,” the memo states.

The communication was copied to Governor Simba Arati, the Deputy Governor and members of the County Executive Committee.

The salary delay comes amid broader concerns about the financial operations of county governments, where timely approval and implementation of budgets are critical to the payment of employees and delivery of essential public services.

For now, however, Kisii County workers remain in limbo as they await communication on when their July salaries will be released.
