Kisumu City for the first time this year will stage the annual Elgon Cup pitting arch rivals Kenya and Uganda rugby 15s sides.
Uganda Rugby Union confirmed that the first leg of the encounter will take place on 22nd June in the Lakeside City.
“Kisumu City offers offers the fans of both countries a new experience. It’s a lakeside city and conditions are similar to both sets of fans and players. It’s a passionate city with alot of heritage,” a statement from URU reads.
New Kenya Rugby Union boss Oduor Gangla confirmed the same while hailing the move as part of the body’s regional focus.

“As part of KRU Regional Focus, this year’s Elgon Cup will be held at Mamboleo (ASK) Showgrounds, Kisumu in a joint venture with Kisumu County and Kisumu Rugby. Make a June plan to visit the lakeside city.”
