Detectives are investigating an incident where a student with the Kenya Medical Training College in Nyeri was found murdered.

The body of Sheila Chebet, who was a first year student at the college, was found in the Rafina area, Karatina after her murder on March 29, police said.

The circumstances surrounding the murder remain unclear. Police arrested a student at the Karatina University who was last seen with the deceased.

The suspect also had the mobile phone belonging to the deceased girl.

He told police he was with the girl during the night where they had drinks at a bar within Karatina town.

He alleged that after taking drinks he was accompanied by the deceased to a friend’s house at Rafina estate and on reaching there they had a disagreement.

He also alleged that he decided to escort the deceased to Karatina stage and while on their way, they were attacked by three men and he ran away leaving the deceased behind. He also alleged that the three men robbed him of his mobile phone but he managed to escape with the deceased’s mobile phone, Redmi which was recovered from him during the arrest.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other investigations.

Meanwhile, detectives are investigating the murder of a female security guard whose body was found dumped in a quarry in Bahati, Nakuru County.

The body did not have the head when it was discovered on Sunday afternoon long after she had gone missing.

She was identified as Jackline Awuor who worked with Protective Custody Security Limited.

She had failed to report to work as required prompting her colleagues to search for her.

The motive of the murder was not immediately known but her boyfriend is missing and is the main suspect, police said.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending an autopsy and other procedures.

Police said on Monday they were pursuing the suspect for questioning.

The woman’s two-year-old daughter was taken to her aunt for care.
