The Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) has extended the partial closure of Eldoret Road in Nairobi to December 30, 2026, citing logistical and site-related challenges affecting ongoing construction works.
The affected section was initially scheduled to remain closed from 6am on Monday, May 18, 2026, until 6pm on Friday, September 18, 2026.
In a statement, KURA said the closure has now been extended until 6pm on Wednesday, December 30, 2026.
“We wish to notify the general public that the closure of the section of Eldoret Road, Nairobi, earlier communicated to run from 6 AM Monday May 18, 2026 till 6 PM Friday September 18, 2026, has been extended until 6 PM Wednesday December 30, 2026,” KURA said.
The authority said the extension was necessary due to unforeseen logistical and site-related challenges encountered during the construction of the vehicular bridge across the Nairobi River.
According to KURA, the challenges included delays in the delivery of critical construction materials and equipment, which were beyond the contractor’s control.
The authority said it is working with the contractor to ensure the project is completed within the revised timeline while meeting the required safety and quality standards.
“KURA and the contractor remain committed to completing the works to the required safety and quality standards within the revised timeline,” the authority said.
KURA urged motorists to continue using the alternative routes provided in the traffic management plan and follow directions from traffic police officers and traffic marshals.
The existing traffic arrangements will remain in place throughout the extension period.
“We urge motorists to continue using the alternative routes shown in the sketch and to follow the guidance of traffic police and marshals. The traffic arrangements remain in place for the duration of the extension,” KURA said.
The authority apologised to motorists and other road users for the inconvenience caused by the extended closure.
“We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused as we endeavour to Transform Urban Mobility,” KURA said.
