The Linda Mwananchi movement formally endorsed Nairobi Senator Edwin Watenya Sifuna as its presidential candidate ahead of the 2027 General Election.
This was made after a meeting among the leaders of the group on Saturday in Nairobi.
In a statement issued on Saturday, September 26, the movement said its leadership had resolved to remain united around what it described as a common purpose of responding to Kenyans seeking changes in governance.
The movement said Sifuna would lead the unveiling of the political party through which he will seek the presidency in early October.
“HE Edwin Watenya Sifuna is our leader and Presidential Candidate,” Linda Mwananchi said in the statement.
The announcement comes days after Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya said Sifuna would be unveiled as the United Democratic Party (UDP) presidential aspirant in October.
Natembeya said the unveiling was expected to take place during the first week of October.
Linda Mwananchi also said it would seek to work with like-minded political parties in an effort to build a coalition ahead of the 2027 elections.
The movement has in recent months stepped up grassroots mobilisation, with Sifuna and his allies holding rallies in different parts of the country.
The group has also been positioning Sifuna as a potential presidential contender following political changes within the opposition.
The latest declaration gives the movement a clearer political direction as it prepares to transition from a mobilisation platform towards a formal party-based campaign.
The statement did not name the parties that Linda Mwananchi intends to engage in coalition talks, saying only that it would work with parties that share its commitment to Kenyans.
“We remain united and focused on the work ahead,” the movement said.
The endorsement also comes as Sifuna’s political allies continue efforts to build a national network beyond his traditional political base.
Recent reports have linked the movement to mobilisation activities in Western Kenya, Nairobi and other parts of the country.
The planned October unveiling is expected to provide further details on the party that will carry Sifuna’s presidential bid, its leadership structure and the alliances it intends to pursue ahead of the 2027 General Election.
