A lorry driver died after being electrocuted when the tipper tray of his vehicle came into contact with high-voltage power lines at a mining site in Naora, Kuria West Sub-County, Migori County.

According to the police, the incident occurred shortly after the driver delivered mine soil from Oyugis to the mining camp using a 25-tonne tipper lorry.

Police said the driver parked the vehicle on a murram road leading to the mining site after noticing strange noises coming from the chassis area.

He then instructed the turn boy to raise the tipper tray to allow inspection underneath the vehicle.

Investigators established that the lorry had been parked directly beneath high-voltage electricity lines.

As the tray was lifted, it touched the power cables, causing a powerful electric current that fatally electrocuted the driver.

The force of the contact also caused the right-side tyres of the lorry to burst and damaged the vehicle’s mechanical system, leaving it immobile at the scene.

The driver was rushed to Kehancha Sub-County Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Police officers from Kehancha Police Station and detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) in Kuria West visited both the scene and the hospital mortuary, where the body was moved for preservation.

Investigators later established that the strange noises originated from a cat trapped inside the chassis of the lorry. Workers at the scene eventually removed and killed the animal.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing.

And police in Mbooni East Sub-County, Makueni County, are investigating a suspected murder after blood stains and a human tooth were discovered inside a worker’s quarters linked to a missing man.

According to police, the missing man was identified as Richard Makau, 50, who worked at a homestead in the area.

Investigators established that Makau reportedly left the homestead on May 10 at an unknown time.

His employer later received a message from the worker’s phone indicating that he had gone somewhere.

Suspicion arose after the worker’s quarters remained locked for several days.

The owner of the homestead later opened the room using a spare key and allegedly discovered blood stains on the floor.

Police visited the scene and established that the bedroom walls and bedding also had blood stains.

Police further recovered a blood-stained human tooth from the bed.

The scene was processed and preserved for forensic analysis, while all exhibits were collected by investigators.

Authorities confirmed that the owner of the homestead has been detained to assist with investigations.

Police noted that the suspect is a brother and neighbour to the man, at whose dam a decomposing body was retrieved on May 13.

Investigations are ongoing to establish whether the incidents are connected.
